Energy sustainability is the moral issue of our time and your leadership will help bring about the historic change needed to overcome our dependence on fossil fuels. FUSE is committed to embarking on this journey with you and will provide support. The following is a description of different opportunities for FUSE members to demonstrate leadership on this issue. Please contact Jesse Glickstein at jesseg@fusenow.org or 1-877-775-FUSE with any questions.
-
Reaching Your Membership
As clergy, you have the ability to influence facility management, education, religious programming. People look to their clergy for guidance, moral advice, and inspiration to act. It is important to speak openly and honestly with your community about the importance of this issue, the need to make a difference, and about your personal journey toward energy sustainability. FUSE provides information and data on issues, examples of similar work occurring in other areas, and examples of other sermons to assist in this process.
-
Institutional Changes
The house of worship should be a model for the journey toward energy sustainability. This requires clergy to begin or expand the conversation with executive staff, including educators and facility managers. FUSE provides the resources needed to implement educational programming and facility-management practices that address our fossil fuel dependency.
-
Inviting Colleagues
It is vital that we mobilize large numbers of lay leadership to make the greatest impact possible. Your involvement with FUSE will inspire your colleagues to act and join you on this journey. FUSE asks members to invite their colleagues to join in our work.

-
Media Campaign
It is vital that clergy publicly declare that the issue of moving toward clean energy is a moral imperative. To that end, FUSE coordinates media campaigns featuring guest editorials and public service announcements featuring faith leadership expressing their moral commitments to sustainability. This campaign is designed to engage elected officials as well as the general public. We invite you to collaborate with FUSE members on this campaign in order to raise the level of discourse taking place around this vital issue.
-
Strategic Legislative Advocacy
Large-scale change of our energy sources and consumption can only be achieved with the involvement of local, state, and federal government. Lay leaders have a unique role to play in encouraging these institutions to make change. FUSE identifies key legislators and elected officials who play a crucial role in moving energy legislation forward and coordinates letter-writing, phone calls, and personal visits with these legislators to hear the message directly from faith leadership.
